Currently at number one on both the UK single and album charts, and having already had a previous number one this year, Lady Gaga is probably the most successful recording artist of 2009 so far. This fact fills me with dismay.
Gaga's style may be different to most, but her music sounds so manufactured, churned out solely to sell copies, not to inspire, not to incite feeling, not to make people think. Simply put, music released to make as much money as possible. I can't help but feel she probably won't stick around for too long, but I know there will be similar artists in the future. This brought me to wonder if the age of the truly talented musician is over.
What are your opinions on this?

Turn it off. Turn it off now.
I agree with you, is the age of the talented musician over? Is the likes of Lady Gaga and Spears going to turn our music culture into a mainstream, manufactured lie? I hope not.
To be honest, i rarely listen to mainstream music simply for the fact that it is so fake. I agree with you there, this music is made simply to make money. But, the revolting thing is, that the teenage girl listeners LOVE this kind of music, which means that artists will continue selling music for all the wrong reasons.
It's quite sickening really.
